LP 377 - Jorma Kaukonen ex, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna ) - 1974 USA / Orginal 1st press. Vinyl; NM - Cover; VG+ ( fukt skade/wear ) FOC ----------------- Birth name Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen, Jr. Born December 23, 1940 (age 74) Washington, D.C., United States Genres Rock, blues, folk, psychedelic rock Occupation(s) Musician, songwriter Instruments Guitar, vocals Years active 1964–present ----------------- Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen, Jr. (born December 23, 1940) is an American blues, folk and rock guitarist, best known for his work with Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him #54 on its list of 100 Greatest Guitarists. ---------- Early life Born in Washington, D.C., the son of Beatrice Love (née Levine) and Jorma Ludwig Kaukonen,[6][7] Jorma Kaukonen had Finnish paternal grandparents and Russian Jewish ancestry on his mother's side.[8] Kaukonen learned to play guitar as a teenager in Washington, D.C. But before moving to the D.C. area, Jorma and family lived in the Philippines and other locales as he followed his father's career from assignment to assignment before returning to the place of his birth. As a teenager in Washington he and future Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady (who at the time played six-string guitar) formed a band named The Triumphs. Kaukonen departed Washington for studies at Antioch College where friend Ian Buchanan taught him fingerstyle guitar playing. Buchanan also introduced Kaukonen to the music of Reverend Gary Davis, whose songs have remained important parts of Kaukonen's repertoire throughout his career.[9] In 1962 Kaukonen moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and enrolled at Santa Clara University. During this time he taught guitar lessons at Benner Music Company in San Jose. As a self-described blues purist, Kaukonen never had any ambition to play in a rock band. He played as a solo act in coffee houses and can be heard accompanying a young Janis Joplin on acoustic guitar on an historic 1964 recording (known as "The Typewriter Tapes" because of the obtrusive sound of Kaukonen's first wife, Margareta, typing in the background).[10] Invited to attend a Jefferson Airplane rehearsal by founding member Paul Kantner, Kaukonen found his imagination excited by the arsenal of effects available to electric guitar and later said, "I was sucked in by technology." Jefferson Airplane Kaukonen with Jefferson Airplane. Though never a prolific singer and songwriter during his Airplane tenure, Kaukonen contributed some distinctive material. On the band's second album, Surrealistic Pillow, his song "Embryonic Journey" showcased his fingerstyle acoustic guitar virtuosity. On the next album, After Bathing at Baxter's, his sound had a harder edge inspired by Mike Bloomfield of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Cream, and other touring groups that performed in San Francisco. These stylistic changes are prominent in the acid rocker, "The Last Wall of the Castle," as well as the long (9:12) instrumental, "Spare Chaynge", cowritten with bandmates bassist Jack Casady and drummer Spencer Dryden. The improvisation marking "Spare Chaynge" is also present in the free-form extended jams, "Thing" and "Bear Melt," both live instrumentals recorded in 1968. Kaukonen insists, however, in the liner notes of the Live at the Fillmore East album, that these jams were not chaotic "free for alls" but were "complex rehearsed arrangements." Two songs that were later to become Hot Tuna signature tunes, "Rock Me Baby" and "Good Shepherd", a gospel ballad, were also recorded during the period 1968–1969. "Star Track", a song from 1968's Crown of Creation album, was also written by Kaukonen. He says it is about his own dealing with sudden fame, as the lyrics suggest: "Take your head in hand and make your own demands or you'll crystallize on the shelf/ The freeway's concrete way won't show you where to run or how to go." Original compositions by Kaukonen on the 1971 Jefferson Airplane album, Bark are an instrumental, "Wild Turkey," "Feel So Good," and the acoustic autobiographical "Third Week in the Chelsea," detailing his feelings about the disintegration of the band. For the 1972 "Long John Silver" album he wrote "Trial by Fire", a song which he still plays, and "Eat Starch Mom", a heavy song and the closer of the album, additionally significant for it being possibly the only Kaukonen-written song which Grace Slick sings by herself. Hot Tuna and solo career Hot Tuna Hot Tuna at Merlefest, 2006-Left to right, Jack Casady, Jorma Kaukonen, and Barry Mitterhoff In 1969–70, Kaukonen and Jack Casady formed Hot Tuna, a spinoff group that allowed them to play as long as they liked. An early incarnation of Hot Tuna included Jefferson Airplane vocalist Marty Balin and featured Joey Covington on drums and vocals. This grouping came to an end after an unsuccessful recording jaunt to Jamaica, the sessions of which have never been released. Pared down to Kaukonen and Casady, Hot Tuna lived on as a vehicle for Kaukonen to show off his Piedmont style acoustic blues fingerpicking skills. The self-titled first album was all acoustic and recorded live. With the dissolution of Jefferson Airplane in 1972, Hot Tuna went electric, with Airplane fiddler Papa John Creach joining for the next two albums. Hot Tuna scored an FM hit with "Ja Da (Keep on Truckin')" from their third (and first studio) album, Burgers. At this time, Kaukonen's songwriting began to dominate, as further evidenced by the next album, The Phosphorescent Rat, which featured only one cover song. Beginning with their fifth album, America's Choice (1974), the addition of drummer Bob Steeler encouraged a rise in volume and a change of band personality —a rampaging, Cream-like rock with often quasi-mystical lyrics by Kaukonen. During this period, the power trio was known for its very long live sets and instrumental jamming. Solo career In 1974, Kaukonen recorded the first and most successful of several solo albums, Quah,

He is best known as the guitarist in the progressive rock group Yes. He has also been a member of the Syndicats, Bodast, Tomorrow, Asia, and GTR, as well as having released 19 solo albums as of 2010 ------------ Early life and bands Howe was born on 8 April 1947 in Holloway, north London and is the youngest of four children. He grew up listening to brass band music. He cites several influences from his parents' record collection including Les Paul and Tennessee Ernie Ford. In addition, Howe listened to classical guitar and jazz, citing Barney Kessel[2] as a primary influence, "his playing was a remarkable mixture of 'single line' and 'chords', ya know, which inspired me to believe that any guitarist who doesn't understand chords won't be able to play much in the single line because they relate so much". Howe also credited Wes Montgomery and Chet Atkins, whom he first heard in 1959, as a major inspiration. Howe said he took from Atkins, "the idea that one guitarist could play any kind of guitar style."[3] Howe attended Holloway School.[4] Howe received his first guitar, an f-hole acoustic, as a Christmas present from his parents at age 12 and eventually began playing in local halls.[5] He bought his first electric guitar, a solid body Guyatone, around 1961,[6] and one of the guitars he is most identified with, a Gibson ES-175D, in 1964. About this guitar, Howe said: "No one was playing archtop, hollowbody guitars in a rock band. People laughed at me and thought I was really snooty. To me, it was an object of art, it wasn't just a guitar."[3] He made his first recording, Chuck Berry's "Maybellene", in 1964 with The Syndicats, who were produced by Joe Meek. He and other members of Tomorrow took part in a pie fight in the 1967 comedy about Mods in London, Smashing Time, starring Rita Tushingham, Lynn Redgrave, and Michael York. In 1968, he recorded albums with both Tomorrow (initially called The In Crowd) and Bodast.[3][7] Howe declined offers from both The Nice and Jethro Tull while waiting for a record deal to materialise for Bodast, but the group's prospective label went bankrupt. He was then approached by the members of Yes as a possible replacement for Peter Banks, who had appeared on the group's first two albums. 1970–81: First Yes run In June 1970, Howe joined Yes and after a few gigs, including the Lyceum Theatre, London, (where the version of "Clap" on The Yes Album was recorded),[8] the band retreated to a farm in Devon to rehearse and write new material. Howe was pictured with the group on the non-Europe jacket of their second album, Time and a Word, which was released in August, although it was Banks who had actually played on the recording. The first Yes album Howe played on was The Yes Album. Howe's electric and acoustic guitars, combined with Jon Anderson's vocals, Chris Squire's bass, and Tony Kaye's keyboards were seen as an essential part of the band's early sound. Released in 1971, the album was a commercial breakthrough for the group. After the departure of Kaye in 1971, his replacement by Rick Wakeman for the following album, Fragile, created the classic Yes sound of Anderson–Howe–Squire–Bruford–Wakeman associated with the peak of the band's early achievements as with Fragile, the group had released one of their most successful works, a milestone album which raised their stature as one of the most prominent progressive rock groups of the time. In the spring of 1971, both Wakeman and Howe had contributed to the recording of Lou Reed's first solo album as session musicians, working together for the first time on this occasion. Howe in concert with Yes in 1977 To his already-formidable assortment of electric and acoustic guitar sounds, Howe added a unique approach to pedal steel guitar in the next album, Close to the Edge, released in 1972. His classical training along with his penchant for ongoing experimentation, helped produce a playing style unique among rock musicians, while the group as a whole took a position as a leading progressive rock band.[9] Following Close to the Edge, Howe played on Tales from Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Going for the One and Tormato, becoming one of the most successful bands of the decade. Two of these five albums achieved platinum certification in the US, and the other three were certified gold. In October 1975, Howe released Beginnings, his first solo album.[10] It featured Yes band members Alan White, Bill Bruford and Patrick Moraz and reached number 63 in the US and number 22 in the UK charts. His second solo album, The Steve Howe Album, was released in November 1979.[11] Howe playe

They formed in Los Angeles, California starting with Michael "Diamond" Gargano (bass) and Jeff Poole (drums). The group released their self-titled debut album for Mercury Records in 1977. The original band broke up in 1980 after three popular albums, but reformed in 1984 after their original albums had begun to acquire a cult following. The new lineup released several more albums and continued to perform throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2005, original frontman Rick Sanford was replaced by ex-Montrose and Wild Horses vocalist John Levesque, and the band released their latest album, "Diamonds Are Forever", in 2006. Original members include Roger Romeo (guitar), Michael Prince (keyboards/rhythm guitar), and Jeff Poole (percussion). The band still does the occasional gig in the Los Angeles area and at least once a year in San Antonio, TX where they are still hugely popular, the result of being a favorite of influential disc jockey Joe "the Godfather" Anthony (1940-1992). Keyboardist Michael Prince is active in studio recording, in Los Angeles, working with some better known R+B and Pop Acts, including Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Usher, Los Lobos and Michael Jackson. Guitarist Roger Romeo is also currently working in a new band called the Funkin Maniacs. Power drummer Jon Hyde (Detective) and NS Stick and bassist Gary Jibilian round out the trio. As might be expected of a band composed of seven crack studio musicians and one newcomer, the musicianship throughout is stellar. As might not be expected, the previously unknown band member steals the show. Though he was better known as an actor, Tim McIntire was an excellent singer with a marvelous bass voice, the latter unusual enough in the rock world. The other members of Funzone provided a carnival-like stew of New Orleans-influenced rock to back McIntire's lyrics, which were by turns comic, ironic, and deeply soulful. The highlight track, the one that got the band national attention thanks to frequent airplay on the Dr. Demento show, was "Big Amp in the Sky," a hilarious honky tonk tale of a debauched rock star's afterlife. There are other gems to be found here, though -- "Stinko the Nark" is a rare instance of intelligent druggie humor, and "For PJ" is as fine a piece of blue-eyed soul as anybody was laying down in 1977. The record was selling well up to the moment that the record company went bankrupt. The members of Funzone were shocked and demoralized by this turn of events, and the band broke up shortly afterward. McIntire did soundtrack work but released nothing else before his early death in 1983, so this album is the only document of a profoundly gifted talent paired with a stellar band.

Tolonen became famous as guitarist for the progressive rock band Tasavallan Presidentti (which means "president of the republic"). He had grown up playing the piano, but received his first guitar at age eleven. From 1966-67 Jukka Tolonen, at age fourteen, played guitar with Arto Sotavalta and the Rogues. Their first single, recorded in 1967, was "No Milk Today," backed by "Lady Jane." For several months in 1969 he was a member of the Eero Raittinen-Help band which eventually split up. It was then that Tolonen and drummer Vesa Aaltonen founded the group Tasavallan Presidentti with whom he toured and recorded several albums from 1969-1974. Their third album, Lambertland, reached number seven on the Finnish charts in 1972, followed by Milky Way Moses which peaked at number twelve in 1974. Tolonen also played on albums Tombstone Valentine (1970) and Fairyport (1971) by Wigwam. His first solo album Tolonen!, recorded and released in 1971 while he was only nineteen years old, displayed his prowess on both guitar (electric and acoustic) and piano, and instrumental songwriting which comfortably segues from classical, jazz, folk, blues, and rock. Tolonen! peaked at number six on the Finnish charts in 1971, winning the Finnish Broadcasting Company's Album of the Year disk. Jukka's guitar solo on "Paradise," a hit single from Rauli 'Badding' Somerjoki's 1974 album "This is Rock and Roll," made it the most played song on Finnish radio for three subsequent years. "Windermere Avenue", a song from Tolonen's 1975 Hysterica album, became a minor radio hit in the USA. Also in 1975 he was asked to join ABBA as a session musician on tour, but he declined, due to the birth of his first child Dimitri and his concurrent solo career. Tolonen is a virtuoso guitarist, who is highly respected in his native Finland as well as in Sweden, where he has lived for long periods. Among Tolonen's side projects are Guitarras Del Norte, Trio Tolonen, and Jukka Tolonen Band (JTB). He has used many different guitars over the years, such as the Gibson ES-335 and Ibanez Artist. Since the 1990s he has used Finnish handmade instruments by Ruokangas Guitars (electric) and Lottonen Guitars (acoustic). Despite his earlier successes, Jukka Tolonen was eventually twice divorced, homeless, and drug-addicted. In May 2008 Tolonen was found guilty of stabbing his girlfriend and was sentenced to 27 months in jail for aggravated assault. When released in 2010, he told the media that he was quitting guitar playing due to osteoarthritis. While in prison Jukka Tolonen dedicated his life to Jesus Christ, and in 2011 he released Juudan Leijona ("Lion of Judah"), a CD of traditional Finnish hymns, in which he sings and plays piano, occasionally accompanied by other instruments and voices. He continues to perform live concerts of Christian music on piano along with other musicians and vocalists. On 2 May 2014 Gateway Films released "Tolonen," a career-spanning documentary. A concurrent Tolonen CD was issued, featuring many young Finnish jazz and rock musicians' interpretations of Jukka Tolonen's songs.

He is best known for his energetic virtuosity on the Hammond organ, peaking in 1971 with his Top 10 pop hit single, "Do You Know What I Mean". ------------- Career; Michaels began his career with The Sentinals, a San Luis Obispo, California-based surf group that included drummer Johny Barbata (later of The Turtles, Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship). Michaels joined Barbata in the Strangers, a group led by guitarist Joel Scott Hill. Michaels later moved to San Francisco, where he joined an early version of The Family Tree, a band led by Bob Segarini.[1] In 1967, he signed a contract with A&M Records, releasing his debut album, Carnival of Life, later that year with David Potter on Drums. As a session musician, he played with Jimi Hendrix, among others. Michaels' choice of the Hammond organ as his primary instrument was unusual for the time, as was his bare-bones stage and studio accompaniment: Usually just a single drummer,[2] most often a musician known as "Frosty" (Bartholomew Eugene Smith-Frost) a member of Sweathog,[3] or with Joel Larson of The Grass Roots. This unorthodox approach attracted a following in San Francisco, and some critical notice (Sounds reported that he had been called "the ultimate power organist"),[2] but Michaels did not achieve real commercial success until the release of his fifth album. Album 5th (1971) produced a surprise US Top 10 hit (#6 in the fall of 1971), "Do You Know What I Mean", an autobiographical homage to the loss of a girlfriend, and a Top 40 follow-up, a cover version of the Motown standard, "Can I Get a Witness", which peaked at #39 on Christmas Day 1971, eight years to the week after Marvin Gaye's version peaked at #22. Billboard ranked "Do You Know What I Mean" as the No. 19 song for 1971.[4] Michaels recorded two more albums for A&M before signing a recording contract with Columbia Records in 1973. His Columbia recordings failed to generate much interest, and Michaels went into semi-retirement from the music industry by the end of the decade. ----------- Studio albums and live album Title Details United States Carnival of Life - Release date: 1968 - Label: A&M - Formats: LP Recital - Release date: 1968 - Label: A&M - Formats: LP Lee Michaels - Release date: 1969 - Label: A&M - Formats: LP Barrel - Release date: 1970 - Label: A&M - Formats: LP 5th - Release date: 1971 - Label: A&M - Formats: LP Space and First Takes - Release date: 1972 - Label: A&M - Formats: LP Lee Michaels Live - Release date: 1973 - Label: A&M 2 LP - Formats: LP Nice Day for Something - Release date: 1973 - Label: Columbia - Formats: LP Tailface - Release date: 1974 - Label: Columbia - Formats: LP Saturn Rings - Release date: 1975 - Label: ABC - Formats: LP -----------

LP 240 / AIRWAVES - New Day

Pris: 165,00 NOK
LP 240 - Airwaves - ------------ AIRWAVES m, John David (musician) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia John David (born John David Williams, 19 January 1946, Cardiff, South Wales), is a Welsh musician and songwriter known equally for his work with Dave Edmunds and for his songwriting.[1] Biography He began his musical career playing drums in his father's dance band Avalon. By 1968 he was playing bass guitar and sang backing vocals in Edmunds' first major group, Love Sculpture, best remembered for their 1968 top two hit single "Sabre Dance". At that time he used the name John Williams. After Love Sculpture split in 1970 he concentrated on studio and session work, songwriting and engineering, as well as collaborating with Edmunds on his massive number one single "I hear you knocking", playing bass, piano, and percussion. In 1978 his group Airwaves recorded an album and single New Day. The single, performed acapella, never reached the charts, but was heavily played on radio at the time. A choral version was later recorded by the King's Singers. The song has been covered by some 150 artists around the world. The song "So Hard Living Without You" got significant airplay in America. Throughout the years he had maintained his involvement with Edmunds, and after Edmunds' group Rockpile disbanded in 1980, David returned to working with him, writing and co-writing several songs on Edmunds' solo albums, including Information (1983), Riff Raff (1984), and Closer to the Flame (1990), as well as contributing backing vocals, bass and other instruments, and playing live on all the tours during the 1980s. In 1983 he signed another solo recording deal and released a solo single, "On The Mountain", which was a minor hit in Germany. At the same time he established a reputation as a songwriter for other artists. His first Top 10 success being "She Means Nothing To Me", a No. 8 hit for Phil Everly and Cliff Richard in 1983, on which he played lead guitar.[2] Further success came with "I Won't Run Away", recorded by Alvin Stardust and a No. 7 hit in 1984, followed by "Rollin' Home", "Red Sky", "I Didn't Mean It", "The Party Ain't Over Yet", and "All That Counts Is Love", all hit singles for Status Quo. He also built his own recording studio, Berry Hill, in the Forest of Dean, mainly to record his own song demos. In 1991 he produced the Shakin' Stevens Christmas album on which he had written or co-written a number of songs. He continues to work with Stevens and others at the Berry Hill Studio. References

LP 613 - Little Feat 1981 USA / Vinyl ; 2 x NM - Cover; EX FOC m,cutout ------------------ Origin from; Los Angeles, California Genres; Southern rock, blues rock, roots rock, funk rock, jazz funk, jazz rock, boogie rock, country rock, jam rock, swamp rock,[1] Americana Years active; 1969 – 1979, 1987 – present ---------------- Little Feat is an American rock band formed by singer-songwriter, lead vocalist and guitarist Lowell George and keyboardist Bill Payne in 1969 in Los Angeles. Although the band has undergone several changes in its lineup, the music remains an eclectic blend of rock and roll, blues, R&B, boogie, country, folk, gospel, soul, funk and jazz fusion influences. Guitarist Jimmy Page stated Little Feat was his favorite American band in a 1975 Rolling Stone interview. ------------- Formative years Lowell George met Bill Payne when George was a member of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Payne had auditioned for the Mothers, but had not joined. They formed Little Feat along with former Mothers' bassist Roy Estrada and drummer Richie Hayward from George's previous band, The Factory. Hayward had also been a member of the Fraternity of Man whose claim to fame was the inclusion of their "Don't Bogart Me" on the million-selling Easy Rider film soundtrack. The name of the band came from a comment made by Mothers' drummer Jimmy Carl Black about Lowell's "little feet". The spelling of "feat" was an homage to the Beatles. There are three stories about the genesis of Little Feat. One has it that George showed Zappa his song "Willin'," and that Zappa fired him from the Mothers of Invention, because he felt that George was too talented to merely be a member of his band, and told him he ought to go away and form his own band. The second version has Zappa firing him for playing a 15-minute guitar solo with his amplifier off. The third version says that Zappa fired him because "Willin'" contains drug references ("weed, whites and wine"). George often introduced the song as the reason he was asked to leave the band. On October 18, 1975 at the Auditorium Theater in Rochester New York while introducing the song, George commented that he was asked to leave the band for "writing a song about dope".[3] The band in 1975 In any version, Zappa was instrumental in getting George and his new band a contract with Warner Bros. Records. The eponymous first album delivered to Warner Bros. was recorded mostly in August and September 1970, and was released in January 1971. When it came time to record "Willin'," George had hurt his hand in an accident with a model airplane, so Ry Cooder sat in and played the song's slide part. Lowell's accident is referenced on the cover art of the band's 1998 album Under the Radar. "Willin'" would be re-recorded with George playing slide for Little Feat's second album Sailin' Shoes, which was also the first Little Feat album to include cover art by Neon Park, who had painted the cover for Zappa's Weasels Ripped My Flesh.

Bra Lp. ---------------------- Released; May 1972 Recorded; Between October 1971 and February 1972 Genre; Southern rock, Country blues ---------------------- Sailcat was an American rock band that was signed with Elektra Records in the early 1970s and best known for the hit song "Motorcycle Mama". ----- History Sailcat, an early Southern Pop/Rock band, was the innovation of John Wyker and Court Pickett who formed the group in 1971 near Decatur, Alabama. Wyker was a veteran of the Muscle Shoals, Alabama rock music scene who had been in The Rubber Band with John Townsend (later of the Sanford-Townsend Band). Court Pickett was the vocalist and bass player from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who had just moved from Macon, Georgia where he had been playing and singing for Sundown, a band that also had Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers), Charlie Hayward (Charlie Daniels Band), and Lou Mullenix (Alex Taylor Band, Dr. John). He's also the brother of The Rubber Band's, Ed Pickett. An early demo tape cut by the duo, which included the song "Motorcycle Mama", was initially discarded by the band but after it was presented to Elektra Records led to a record contract and 1972 album release titled: Sailcat "Motorcycle Mama". The resulting album was produced by Pete Carr, was a concept album with biker theme, about a motorcycle riding drifter in the Easy Rider vein who tires of life on the road and falls in love with a young woman. The cover art and drawings inside the gatefold cover were drawn by Jack Davis, featuring motorcycles, predominately the Harley-Davidson with a series of drawings for each song on the album. The concept album's songs loosely tell the story of a motorcycle vagrant, who apparently bums for a living, meeting a woman and settling down to start a family. However, he apparently keeps some of his selfish behaviors as the last drawing shows him reclining on his porch while his wife hangs the laundry and his child hoes the garden. In 1972, single "Motorcycle Mama" hit #12 on the Billboard magazine singles charts, and the album went to #38 and led them to appearances on American Bandstand and at Carnegie Hall. John D. Wyker and Sailcat perform Motorcycle Mama and Walking Together Backwards on their first televised appearance on August 26, 1972.[1] Sailcat toured to promote the album, released one more non-LP single, "Baby Ruth". Soon after releasing the album, Sailcat broke up. The album was officially re-released on CD in 2004. Sailcat leader Johnny Wyker, who had been a member of the Rubber Band who recorded the original version of "Let Love Come Between Us," later a hit for James and Bobby Purify, went on to play with many of the great Southern rock musicians like Eddie Hinton, Dan Penn, Delany Bramlett, among others. On the 1990 compilation album Rubáiyát, the song is covered by The Sugarcubes featuring Björk. Wyker worked on a benefit project called The Mighty Field of Vision Anthem, a group dedicated to raising funds for musicians who have fallen on hard times. Wyker died at his home on December 8, 2013.[2] Courtland Pickett later issued a solo album, Fancy Dancer, on the Elektra label in 1973.[3] Court Pickett now lives in Rock Hill, S.C. --------- les mer på Wikipedia....
